What is a specialist anaesthesiologist?

Specialist Anaesthesiologists are medical doctors, who on completion of their basic medical degree, have undertaken a further 4 years of specialist training and examinations. They are then registered as Specialists with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). This specialised training imparts the skills to anaesthetise patients for any operation including cardiac, thoracic, neurosurgical, vascular, orthopaedic, obstetric, general and paediatric surgery. In addition Anesthesiologists have been trained in the treatment of pain, the care of very ill (intensive care) patients and in emergency care (resuscitation).

Our team of Specialist Anaesthesiologists works with most of the Specialist Surgeons in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands region.


At which hospitals do you provide anaesthetic services?

Our practice provides anesthesia services as well as Intensive Care support (where offered) at most of the hospitals located in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands region including Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg Hospital, Netcare St Annes Hospital, Hilton Life Private Hospital, Howick Day Hospital and the Lenmed Howick Hospital.
